Alex Beisser - Research Interests

I first came in contact with healthcare applications when I was working for a private hospital in 1995 in Germany as a system administrator.

My expertise was concentrated in database technology and collaborative information sharing through web-based applications before I started to work for the NHS. The importance of timely and accurate information exchange between clinicians and other healthcare providers is the key to ensure the best treatment for patients in a modern patient-lead NHS.

The use of mobile devises such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), tablet PCs, Netbook or classic laptops is underdeveloped in the community and hospital based care provision. The advantages of using this kind of IT equipment in the Community Medicine are clear and have been proven by pilot studies - but why have they not been implemented more widely in practice?

I developed a keen interest in the use of RFID applications within the healthcare setting while studying for my MSc in Health Informatics at London City University.

Nowadays I am more involved in the area of Information Governance and Management since I started working for my local Community Health Services NHS Trust back in 2008.
